Deputy Chief Executive, Strategy & Governance
Department of Internal Affairs, New Zealand

9:50 AM CASE STUDY: Applying Governance to Fit for Purpose Workplaces at the Department of Internal Affairs NZ

For 32 years, the Department of Internal Affairs has occupied Lambton Quay, and as of the end of 2017, the organisation has relocated to a new and modernised building. Part of the move includes strategies to reinforce positive behaviours such as good information management, health and safety, privacy and security and change leadership, all which can influence good internal governance. In this session, Mervin will discuss:

  • Flexibility and freedom in activity based workplaces – How to apply governance processes and frameworks without providing constraints on the nature of such spaces
  • Principles to uphold when launching into a more flexible working environment and how to support a culture of collaboration to maintain good governance
  • Optimising your governance structures and processes to lead into a workplace and workforce that can adapt to change and disruption
